The Course
Business Studies introduces students to how money, consumers, enterprises, and the wider economy work. They develop practical skills such as financial literacy, problem‑solving, communication, and critical thinking, while learning to analyse real business situations.
Learning Approach
Teaching is active and practical, using case studies, group tasks, projects, digital research, and real‑world examples. Students apply business concepts to everyday life and current events, building confidence in decision‑making.
Assessment
Junior Cycle: Two CBAs (Business in Action and a Presentation/Reflection Task) plus a final written exam.
Senior Cycle: Students complete an AAC (Project) 40% and written exam 60% in June of 6th year.
Junior vs Senior Cycle
Junior Cycle focuses on practical understanding and everyday application. Senior Cycle explores business in greater depth, with more emphasis on management, marketing, finance, enterprise, and global business.
Why It’s Valuable
Business Studies equips students with essential life skills, helping them make informed financial decisions, understand the world of work, and explore future pathways in areas such as accounting, marketing, management, entrepreneurship, and law.
