Music

Music in our school is all about getting involved, being creative, and building confidence. In Junior Cycle, students explore lots of different styles of music through listening, performing, and composing. They learn the basics of rhythm, melody, and harmony while having plenty of chances to play and perform together.
In Leaving Certificate, students take their skills further through listening, composing, and practical performance. As part of the composing course, students work on melody composition, creating their own pieces and developing their musical ideas. The practical side gives students the chance to perform as soloists or in groups, and to show off their strengths as musicians.
Students are assessed across four areas, each worth 25%: listening, performing, composition, and an elective. For the elective, students can choose to focus in more depth on either performance, composition, or music technology, depending on their strengths and interests.
There’s also a strong musical community in the school. Our school choir is a big part of that , performing at school events throughout the year and taking part in the Festival of Music every year. It’s a great way to get involved, meet others, and enjoy making music together
